A year later, the emperor, who had been in Kyoto until then, moved into Edo Castle. The imperial family still lives here in its palace and surrounding gardens. In the twentieth century, Tokyo was not spared natural or war disasters. A major earthquake shook the city in the early twentieth century. Twenty-two years later, in 1945, Tokyo was bombed by the US Air Force during World War II. After the war, the city was completely rebuilt for the occasion of the Olympic Games, that took place here in 1964.
Transport
Traffic is a big problem in Tokyo. Although the city has one of the largest public transport networks in the world, this will not prevent trains and the metro from being congested during rush hour. Not to mention the roads, that are crowded with vehicles and are constantly forming convoys. Another negative resulting from the excess of cars is the smog in which the city is shrouded. Tokyo Central Station is the center of all train connections throughout Japan. You can get to Kyoto or Osaka by the modern Shinkansen express train.
Weather
The best time to travel to Tokyo is during the spring or autumn months, when the temperatures are pleasant and it doesn't rain that much. The end of autumn can be problematic, when tropical cyclones called typhoons can occur.
