Ko Chang Guide
Ko Chang also known as „Elephant Island“ is located in the east of Thailand near the border with Cambodia. This third largest island of Thailand is a popular tourist destination with beautiful beaches and everything you need for beach holiday. Beaches suitable for swimming are only on the western part of the island. The east side is covered with mangroves and shallow sea. Bathing is not possible in this part of the island. But western beaches will make up for it.
Ko Chang is located in the province of Trat about 300km from the east of Bangkok. You can get there directly from Bangkok by bus. If your destination is only Ko Chang, it is possible to fly to the small Trat airport. From there you will be taken to the island by a minibus. This transfer from Trat Airport can be ordered directly upon your arrival, it is not necessary to book it in advance.
Weather
The best time to visit Ko Chang is between November and February. At this time, there is a pleasant weather and almost no precipitation. On the other hand, the island is most visited from December to February. The warmest is in Ko Chang during February, March and April. The rainy season is here from May to October.
Beaches
The most popular beach of the island is 3 km long White Sand Beach, which stretches from the north-west of the island. You will find here all types of accommodation from luxury hotels to cheap hotels. Another beach is Klong Prao in the central part of Ko Chang. Due to the size of the beach, everyone can find their peaceful place and escape some busy parts of the island. Southward you will find popular Kai Bae Beach and Lonely Beach.
Activities
The name of the island "The elephant island" will really live up to its name. You will find many elephant farms where you can feed or ride on elephants. The Klong Plu waterfall is also worth a visit. Other activities, I can recommend, are kayaking, Tree Top Adventure park or cooking school. If you want to buy souvenirs or taste delicious seafood you should not miss a visit to Bang Bao Pier. From there you can also take a boat trip to the nearby islands of Ko Mak or Ko Kood.
Accommodation
If you are traveling with children and want to stay in a good hotel, I can recommend the luxury resort KC Grande Resort & Spa with several pools directly on White Sand Beach. Another luxury hotel is Santhiya Tree Koh Chang Resort by Klong Prao Beach or Awa Resort Koh Chang at Kai Bai.
