Terchová is a well-known village located in the northern part of Slovakia in the Žilina region. Around 4,000 inhabitants live there. Terchová is a popular tourist center located on the border of the protected landscape area Kysuca and Little Fatra. Terchová was mainly made famous by native and well-known bandit Juraj Jánošík.

History of Terchova
The foundation of the village of Terchová dates back to 1580, when it was part of the Gbeľan estate. In the second half of the 17th century, the village was incorporated into the so-called "Teplice manor". During the Second World War, Terchová was burned down and its inhabitants were forced to move to other areas of Slovakia. The village was built again in the years 1947 - 1950. After the construction of the Košicko - Bohumínská (1871) and Považská (1883) railway lines, the area around Terchová and Malá Fatra became a sought-after tourist area.
Transportation to Terchová
Terchová is located 20 km from the Slovak city of Žilina, where there are good connections from all corners of Slovakia, but also from the Czech Republic. There are also regular bus connections to Terchová from Žilina.
Sights, attractions and activities in Terchová
Terchová became famous for the character of the bandit Juraj Jánošík. A wooden likeness of him from the workshop of carver Ján Palek stands at the local Municipal Office. The most important monument of the village is the church of St. Cyril and Methodius, built between 1942 and 1949. You can also visit the beautiful wooden Nativity scene in Terchová. The area around Terchová offers its visitors a lot of options, especially for walking and cycling trips. You can go, for example, to Jánošíkov Diery, which is a system of caves and ravines located in Krivánská Malej Fatra. The Zbojnícky walkway is also a nice but rather demanding walk. If you get to the top, you can enjoy the views of the Vrátňanský hrebeň and the Tiesňava. Many sports and cultural events take place in Terchová throughout the year. The Vrátna Dolina ski resort is located a few kilometers from Terchová.
