Trenčín Guide
Trenčín is a Slovak city located in the western part of the country near the border with the Czech Republic. It is a district and one of the most beautiful cities in Slovakia. The river Váh flows through here. It is an important industrial and cultural place. Trenčín covers an area of 80 km2 and has approximately 60,000 inhabitants. During the year, the city organizes a number of various exhibitions, fairs and other social and cultural events.

History of Trenčín
The area around the river Váh, where the city of Trenčín is now located, was already inhabited in the Stone Age. It was proved by many archaeologists. Roman soldiers stayed here around the year 179. From this time there is an inscription still preserved on the rock wall - Laugaricio, which is how the Romans originally named the city. During the time of the Great Moravian Empire, Trenčín fell under the Principality of Nitra, which was annexed to the empire by the Czech prince Mojmír I in 833. Matúš Čák was an important figure, who unofficially ruled the whole of Slovakia from Trenčín Castle between 1302 and 1321. Between 1918 and 1938, the food industry, but also engineering and the clothing industry, developed in Trenčín. On August 30, 1944, the city was occupied by German troops. Two transports of prisoners were then taken to the Austrian Mauthausen concentration camp. After 1989, Trenčín came to life again and became a popular tourist center with many preserved historical monuments and other attractions.
Transport to Trenčín
You can go to Trenčín by car, train or bus. The train connection usually has a transfer in Bratislava. Bus transport is provided, for example, by Eurolines, Student Agency, but also by many smaller companies. The main bus and train stations are located in close proximity near the city center. Buses are used for transportation around the city. Previously, there was hesitation about also introducing trolleybuses, which was ultimately abandoned. However, shipping is also used. In the future, the so-called Váž Waterway is to lead here, which should connect the rivers Danube, Váh with the Odra and the Vistula. In the Trenčianske Biskupice district, there is an airport primarily used for military purposes.
Sights and attractions in Trenčín
Trenčín definitely has a lot to offer its visitors. Trenčín Castle rises on a rock above the city, which is the leading monument of the city. The original building dates back to the 12th century. The 80 m deep Well of Love is located in the castle courtyard. Other important monuments include the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, which was affected by a number of fires in the past. It was rebuilt to its present form only in the 20th century. Next, the Parish Church, to which the Parish steps lead from the square. In the past, the stairs were used to move the defenders of the city to the walls. The Plague Column, built in the Baroque style, is another monument located on Mírové náměstí. The City Gate, the Jewish Synagogue or the Evangelical Church built in 1795 are also worth a visit.
Culture in Trenčín
As for the cultural life of the city of Trenčín, you can visit, for example, the music festivals Trenčín Spring and Trenčín Autumn. Also the festivals Jazz pod hradom, Runway international rock festival or Theater festival Alone on stage. The local exhibition center hosts various fairs throughout the year. We can mention SATOT - Salon of textile and clothing technology, Aqua - international exhibition of water management, hydropower and environmental protection, Beauty Slovakia or Auto - moto show, which is an international exhibition of automobiles.
