Guide to Trento
Trento is located in South Tyrol in the northern part of Italy. You will find it halfway between the cities of Verona and Bolzano. The city stretches out in a wide glacial valley through which the river Adige flows. The historic center of the city is built right along the banks of the river. Other parts of the city are spread over the mountain slopes of the Dolomites. Trento is one of the richest cities in Italy. About 117 thousand inhabitants live here permanently.

History of Trento
The site of today's Trento was already inhabited in Celtic times. Already in Roman times, the city was of great importance, mainly as a crossroads between Innsbruck and Verona. An important milestone in the history of Trent is the years 1545 to 1563, when a council of the Catholic Church called the Council of Trent was held here, during which the issues of Protestantism and the Catholic Reformation were resolved. During the duration of the Council, Trent became the most important center of Catholic Europe. In the 19th century, after the end of the Napoleonic Wars, the city fell under the administration of Tyrolean Austria-Hungary and also lost its independence. Trento fell to Italy only after the end of the First World War.
Transport to Trento
You can get there by car or use a bus or train connection. If you decide to take the train, expect that you will have to change trains at least once. In the city itself, you can walk, also because the historic center is a pedestrian zone.
Sights and attractions in Trento
Trento boasts the unique atmosphere of an Alpine town closely linked to culture, history and art. The city center itself with its historical monuments can be explored in one day. You can start your tour in the main square, Piazza Duomo, in the heart of the historic center, which is home to many beautiful Renaissance buildings such as the Fountain of Neptune and the Duomo. The cathedral building was built during the 12-13. century and was dedicated to the patron saint of Trent, Saint Vigilius. Trento's most important secular monument is the imposing Castello del Buonconsiglio, once the seat of bishops and princes. Today, a medieval museum is located here. On the contrary, you can view contemporary art at the MART Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. After a hard day, you can enjoy a traditional simple meal of polenta and a glass of good wine.
