One of the most famous French ski resorts, Val dʼIsère, is part of a ski paradise called Espace Killy. It is located in the picturesque valley of the Savoy Alps, where the river Isola flows, not far from the equally famous resort of Tignes. Modern lifts and skiing on the glacier attract thousands of skiers every year. In 1992, the Winter Olympic Games were held in the French city of Albertville, where the Tignes and Val d'Isere resorts played the main role of all downhill races. Since 2009, the famous FIS World Races have been held here.

History of Val dʼIsère
The first mentions of habitation in the area around Val-d'Isère date back to the time of the Roman Empire. Parish rights were assigned to the village in 1637. Seven years later, a parish church was built here. From recent history, it is necessary to mention the year 1992, when Val-d'Isère and its "ally" Tignes, with which it forms a huge complex today, became an integral and important part of the Winter Olympics. The first ski lift was built in Val-d'Isère as early as 1930.
Transport to Val dʼIsère
The French resort of Val-d'Isère is located very close to the Italian border. The nearest airports are located in Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble. In the winter months, the airport provides direct bus connections with the center. One of the most used modes of transport to Val-d'Isère is train transport. The nearest station is in Bourg-St-Maurice. From there, there are regular bus lines to the center.
Attractions and activities in Val dʼIsère
Val-d'Isère is a paradise for skiers and winter sports lovers. Here you will find racing tracks, where the steepest slope is the Face olympique de Bellevarde or the slightly less demanding Coupe du Monde. For more experienced skiers, there are a number of beautifully groomed and wide red runs, and the area with neighboring Tignes mainly has blue and green runs. Val-d'Isère itself offers over 160 km, together with Tignes then almost 300 km, served by 74 cable cars and lifts. You can enjoy great skiing on the Grande Motte glacier. Fans of cross-country skiing will certainly appreciate over 45 km of groomed tracks. If you still have energy after skiing or want to relax, we recommend going to neighboring Tignes (approx. 13 km), where there is a large water park. In Val-d'Isère you can visit the saunas, play squash or ice-skate. Evenings here belong to entertainment in bars and discos. As for the negative points, they are overcrowded parking lots and high prices.
