Immersed in the Tuscan countryside, this working farm produces olive oil, wine, vegetables, essential oil and wheat. With its own restaurant and a children's zoo, it is a 10-minute drive from Sorano.
Local ricotta cheese and honey feature at breakfast, along with fruit pies, cakes and jams, accompanied by local pecorino cheese and cold cuts. The Aia del Tufo restaurant serves Tuscan specialities prepared from the farm's own and organic produce.
Rooms have hand-crafted furniture and tiled floors. Each overlooks the garden and includes a private bathroom with locally produced, essential oil-based toiletries. Some have Etruscan-style frescoes on the walls.
Bio Agriturismo Aia del Tufo is home to goats, ducks, donkeys and hens. The farm runs courses for children on how cheese is made, how wheat becomes bread, how vegetables are grown and how medicinal plants are transformed and used.
The farm is a 20-minute drive from the Etruscan towns of Pitigliano and Sovana. Thermal baths at Saturnia are 25 km away. A car is recommended.
