Ko Lanta Guide
Ko Lanta Island is located in the southern region of Thailand in Krabi Province. Lanta consists of two islands: larger and tourist Yai and North Noi. The island's beaches are washed by the Andaman Sea and, unlike nearby Ao Nang, there is a peaceful island life. Ko Lanta is influenced by nearby Malaysia and that is why more than anywhere else you will meet not only Buddhism, but also Muslims. They make up the majority of the local population. The tourist season in Ko Lanta is during the dry season from October to April.
Transport
Ko Lanta is easily accessible from Krabi. You can fly there by plane and then get to Lanta by minivan or van. The journey takes about 90 minutes. If you are traveling from Phuket, the best choice is a boat trip (approx. 3.5 hours). However, you can take a break to Phi Phi, where you can spend the night and then continue by boat to Ko Lanta. The easiest way to move around Lanta is on a motorcycle. The roads here are mostly asphalt and the traffic is not great. More traffic is only at the port. There is only one main road on the whole island. Hint: If you walk on the main road in the evening, we recommend that you take a flashlight with you so that passers-by can see you better.
Beaches
Ko Lanta is about 6 km wide and 30 km long. The northern part of the island: Saladan Village, is not very suitable for swimming. There is a harbor, fishing village, shops and markets. South of the port, on the east side of the island, is 3 km long Klong Dao Beach. This beach has a gradual entry into the sea and is lined with coconut trees. Klong Dao Beach behind the rocky cape connects to Long Beach. Both of these beaches are very popular with tourists however you will not find many accommodation facilities here. Klong Nin Beach is a popular beach for backpackers in the southwestern part of the island. In the very south of the island are Kantiang Bay Beach, Klong Jark Beach and Bamboo Bay. These are quiet beaches with almost no people, we really recommend visiting them. On the other hand, there is minimal tourist infrastructure (accommodation, restaurants, etc.)
Trips
If you have enough sunbathing on the beach, you can go on a boat trip to the surrounding islands. For those, who like diving, is Ko Lanta the right place, in the vicinity there are some of the best diving sites. In the very southern part of Lanta is Moo Koh Lanta National Park, which includes other beautiful beaches. There are also 3 accessible caves on Ko Lanta, you will have to pay a local guide to explore them. Other activities that we recommend are for example cooking school or a kayak ride.
Accommodation
As everywhere in Thailand and Ko Lanta, you can choose from a plethora of accommodation. From luxury resorts to cheap accommodation. For those, who are looking for real luxury, we can recommend the adults-only resort Layana Resort & Spa - Adults Only. Amongst the most popular accommodation belongs Long Beach Chalet. If you are looking for cheap accommodation, try bungalows Cat Bungalow.
