History
The hot spring was discovered in Jánské Lázně in June 1006 by Jan of Chockov, after whom it was named Janův. Reports of the use of the healing spring for baths date back to the 14th century. In the 17th century, Prince Jan Adolf I of Schwarzenberg bought the spa. He had several buildings built here and thus gave rise to today's spa town. The greatest development of the spa and the town took place at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. After the end of World War II, Jánské Lázně gained worldwide fame for the treatment of conditions after polio. Today, spas are sought after for the treatment of the musculoskeletal system. However, the construction of the cable car to Černá Hora in 1928 also contributed to the development.
