Guide Neustift im Stubai
Neustift im Stubaital (Stubai) is a village in a western part of Austria, 25 kilometers south from Innsbruck. About 4,500 residents live there. The village covers an area of 249 km2. It is located in Stubai Valley, which belongs to one of the most picturesque valleys in Tyrol. Above the valley rises the mountain range Pfaffengruppe with Mairspitze, Brennerspitz and limestone peaks Elferspitze and Zwölferspitze. Neustift im Stubai is located at the back of the valley as well as the largest glacier in Austria, Stubai Glescher. The glacier covers an area of 12 km2 in an altitude of between 1,750 and 3,200 meters.

History of Neustift im Stubai
Stubaital was firstly mentioned in documents Stupeia around the year 1000. In the year 1400, the region was divided into five small villages: Telfes, Mieders, Schönberg and Fulpmes im Tal (meaning valley). The first historical record of Neustift name comes from the 14th century (from Niwenstift im Stubai tal). Locals are today known as Tholer (residents of the valley). During World War II there was the SS mountaineering training center just in Neustift. Emblem of the town consists of a red shield with a horizontal white tape (similar to linking as it is on the state flag of Austria) and crossbows.
How to get to Neustift im Stubai
Neustift is best reached by car. However, watch out, the expressways and highways in Austria are subject to toll. 10-day vignette, costs only about 8 Euro. Neustift is connected with Innsbruck with a bus service which runs from the main train station every half an hour.
Skiing in Neustift im Stubai
Neustift is a very popular winter resort. In its vicinity there are four ski resorts: Stubai Glacier in Neustift Elferlifte, Schlick2000 in Fupmes (distance 4 km) and Serlesbahnen in Mieders. You can buy so-called Stubai Super Ski Pass, which applies to all centers. The largest center is the Stubai Glacier with 100 km of pistes. You can find here 24 lifts that take you to a height of 3,150 meters. Thanks to good snow conditions the ski season begins here already in late September or early October.
