History of St. Wolfgang
About the history of the establishment of St. Wolfgang legend has it that several buildings were built around the chapel on the shore of the Wolfgangsee, which became the basis for the creation of the city. According to legend, these were built by Wolfgang from Regensburg, and the name itself is after him. In the 15th century, this chapel was replaced by a church that still stands today. The church is definitely worth a visit, thanks to the beautiful carved altar. Its creator was Michael Pacher. It is also worth mentioning the sad fact that the Dachau concentration camp was located here during World War II.
Transport to St. Wolfgang
If you travel by car, don't forget to get your Austrian highway stamp before your trip. The nearest train station is located in Bad Ischl, 17 km away. If you choose the option by train, you will change either only in Linz or also in Attnang-Puchheim. The train journey is comfortable, leads through beautiful nature and takes approximately 7 hours. St. Wolfgang is a small town, be sure to explore it on foot.

Gradual slopes and a few cable cars can be found on the Postalm plateau. Romantics can enjoy walks through the snowy forest or a horse-drawn sleigh ride.
