Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires (aka "Paris of South America") is the capital of Argentina and also the largest city in Argentina. It covers more than 203 square kilometers and has a population of more than 3 million. It is one of the largest cities in South America, currently also the most visited city in South America. It is the birthplace of Pope Francis.
Location and weather
Buenos Aires is located on the east coast of Argentina, where the rivers Panama and Uruguay flow into the sea. It is washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The climate here is humid subtropical, with hot summers and mild winters. The warmest month is January. Spring (September - November) and autumn (March - May) are generally recommended for visiting Buenos Aires.

Students and young travelers can look into the San Telmo district, where there is a large number of hostels and cheaper guesthouses. Puerto Madero is considered the safest part of the city and that is why most travelers are looking for accommodation right here.
History
Buenos Aires was founded in the 16th century by Spanish sailors, who were eventually expelled after persistent problems with the local Indians, and their settlement was burned down. The settlement was founded for the second time in 1580 under the name Ciudad de la Santísima Trinidad and Puerto de Santa María del Buen Aire, in the 17th century the name was shortened to Buenos Aires. In 1880, it was named the capital of the now independent Argentina.
Transport
There are several airports in Buenos Aires, the most important being Ezeiza International Airport (most international flights) and Aroparque Jorge Newbery airport (flights from Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay). Buses, underground (called subte) and taxis can be used to travel around the city. Public transport in Buenos Aires is reliable and relatively cheap. It is recommended to get a map of the city, where all bus routes are listed. Watch out for the maps you get at the taxi rank at Ezeiza Airport - these are issued upside down, south is at the top of the page, north is at the bottom. This may apply to multiple maps, always check carefully if this is not the case with yours.
Landmarks and culture
The most famous monument of Buenos Aires is the Obelisk located in the Plaza de la República. Other important monuments include the Royal Palace Casa Rosada, Cabildo, the Cathedral Catedral Metropolitana de Buenos Aires, there are many museums, art galleries and parks. Argentina is known for its excellent wines (the most famous is Malbec), in Buenos Aires there are several companies that focus on wine testing. A bottle of wine is also a great tip for a gift from Buenos Aires. Other interesting tips can be, for example, a handmade poncho, anything connected with "Couch" (= cowboys) or anything made of leather. The most popular drink is mate - a non-alcoholic stimulant drink. Buenos Aires is also home to tango - for all those who want to dance it in person, there are dance halls in Buenos Aires called Milonga, the locals will be happy to involve you and show you how to dance. Milonga is also the name of a local dance that is very similar to tango. Buenos Aires is also a major fashion city, with Buenos Aires Fashion Week and many other major fashion events twice a year. Polo is a very popular sport in Argentina, the most important tournament is held every year in December. The city is home to two famous football teams - Boca Juniors and River Plate. Argentines are famous for their passion and love for football, every visit to a football match is a very powerful experience.
