Prague with children

You can also enjoy Prague with children, you just need to know the children's favorite places. That's why I'll give you some tips on playgrounds, museums or gardens that you can use to intersperse tours of historical monuments. Unfortunately, most of the gardens are closed in winter, but in winter you'd better head to the warm spaces of a cafe or museum...

Valdštejn Garden - located on the Lesser Town (Malá Strana), a short distance from the Old Castle Stairs. My kids love it there. Many different colorful fishes are kept in the pool, peacocks roam freely here - both white and colored ones, and in the back part you can count great horned owls (Bubo bubo in Latin) in a large aviary. Next to the owls, you will find a spooky stalactite wall, where you and your little ones can look for spooky faces and various animals. In front of the beautiful Sala Terrena there are benches where you can relax and eat a snack.

OO Prague – the fifth largest zoological garden in the world was founded almost 100 years ago. Nearly one and half million young and adult animal lovers visit it every year. The Prague ZOO is also highly rated abroad. You can get to the ZOO by bus, car or even by boat - it departs from Rašín embankment and the journey takes a little over an hour. In the largest Czech ZOO, children can have fun on the Bororo playground, test how fast they can run or take a cable car or small tram ride. And last but not least, you can view some of the more than 5,000 animals.

Petřín - a popular children's destination is the Petřín Tower. You can get there by cable car from Malá Strana (from the Újezd tram stop) or you can climb up to the lookout tower on foot - it is also possible with a stroller, but you will sweat. There are 299 steps to the top of the tower or you can use the elevator. The views are definitely worth it. Not far from the tower, you can visit the mirror maze. Not only children will enjoy it. And then you can take a walk through the peaceful Petrin Gardens towards the Strahov Monastery. The Borromeo Garden, an oasis of calm in the middle of busy Prague, is perfect for relaxing.

Stromovka – when you want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city, you can head to the Royal Nature Reserve Stromovka. You can walk, run or even ride a horse in a large park with lots of lakes and playgrounds. On the edge of Stromovka, a short distance from the Exhibition Center, you can visit the Planetarium Prague (Královská obora 233).

Museum as a reward - you can promise the children that if they walk through the Prague Castle with you, you will take them to the Toy Museum (Jiřská 4) - it is located right on the premises of the Castle at Staré Purkrabství. And if you take them as well to Golden Lane (Zlatá Ulička), they will definitely fall in love with Prague Castle.

When you want to walk around New Town, you can lure the little ones to the largest private Lego Museum in the world, which is located on Národní Třída (Národní 31). In addition to a lot of elaborate exhibits, the museum also has a special children's corner.

And for the third of all the good things - in Smíchov you will find the train museum or Kingdom of Railways (Stroupežnického 23). Large model railways, vehicle simulators and much more await you here.

Right in the center you can visit the largest toy store in Prague - Hemlys (Na Příkopě 14). While your kids play, you can relax in the cafe, from where you can keep an eye on your little ones. But be careful, agree with the children in advance how much time you will spend here, because due to the number of attractions, your stay could extend to the whole day ;)

Food - When you get hungry near Wenceslas Square, you can stop for example at the Výtopna restaurant (Václavské náměstí 56), where small trains will bring you your drinks. My sons love it :)

In summer, you can swim with your children in one of the outdoor pools - for example, the Na Petynce area (Otevřená 1072) offers a large swimming pool, children's wading pool, water slide, children's playground and activities such as aqua zorbing or an inflatable trampoline. The whole family will also have fun in Žluté Lázně (Podolské nábřeží 3), where you can play beach volleyball, table tennis, swim in the Vltava River... Children can have fun in the children's corner with a swimming pool.

In winter, you can skate at some ice rink near the center - the largest is usually in Letná, where there are 2 ice rinks next to each other - a small one for beginners and a large one for advanced skaters. Here you can rent skates and buy refreshments. When it's snowing, you can have fun for example on Petřín, sliding down the hill, or build a snowman somewhere with the children. During the covid period, it was possible to cross-country ski across the Charles Bridge, but we probably won't be so lucky ;)
