History of Dresden dates back to the year 1206 when there was a small fishing village. In the 16th century, during the reign of the Saxon Duke Albrecht, the city began to develop. From 1806 to 1918, Dresden became the capital of the Saxons kingdom. In 1945, the city suffered major damage and loss of lives during the bombardment by the allied aircraft. The number of casualties is not yet accurate, but exceeds 20,000.
