Guide Hlinsko
Hlinsko is located in the center of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands surrounded by two protected landscape areas, the Iron Mountains and the Žďár Hills. The river Chrudimka flows through the city center. It is said that the town got its name from pottery. Pottery belonged to one of the many traditional crafts, typical for Hlinsko. To this day, you can see these activities in the Bethlehem Folk Architecture Monument Reserve, located in the heart of the city.
History
The original settlement of potters was established on the territory of today's Hlinsko as early as the 12th century. The first mention of Hlinsko dates back to the 14th century. The town then developed for the next century mainly thanks to the development of crafts, especially the already mentioned pottery, weaving and later the textile industry and the production of electrical appliances. Hlinsko used to be the home of the Czech brand of electrical appliances ETA.
Attractions
Undoubtedly, the biggest attraction of Hlinsko is the already mentioned open-air museum Betlém. Right in the city center, you can see log cabins from the second half of the 18th century and get to know their lives. Cultural events such as Farewell to the Carnival, Wood Days and St. George's Fair are also held here throughout the year. The local fairs are in the spirit of old folk crafts. Beer lovers can then visit and see the Hlinka brewery Rychtář. You can also visit the Municipal Museum and Gallery Hlinsko, which is one of the oldest in the Czech Republic.
Trips to the surroundings
The surroundings of Hlinsko offer countless natural, historical and also fun possibilities for a trip. A popular place is the nearby open-air museum Veselý Kopec. Here, the Carnival festivities inscribed on the UNESCO (Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity) take place every year. About 10 km from Hlinsko is located NKP Ležáky. You can go for a tourist walk in the valley of the river Doubravka or visit the rock formation Toulovcovy Maštale. Children will then be delighted by a visit to the fairytale Hell - Devil's. Golf lovers can then visit the golf course in Svobodné Hamry or Svratka. Almost everyone will find his favourite activity here.
