Guide Zuberec
The town Zuberec is located in the Western Tatras in the northern part of Slovakia. Zuberec is only 30 km from the Polish border. The main reason for visiting the area around Zuberec is the important Zverovka-Spálená ski resort. It extends in Roháčská and Spálená dolina. The village of Zuberec has less than 2,000 inhabitants on an area of 72 km2. Outside of the ski areas, there are cycle paths and hiking trails in the vicinity.

Very pleasant accommodation Koliba Holica is located 6 km from Zuberec. A traditional Slovak hut is built mainly of wood and stone, which makes the entire interior very cozy. The restaurant with an open fireplace in the middle is a real experience. A double room with breakfast here costs 45 Euros per night. If you go to Zuberka with your family or a larger group of friends, you can choose from a number of apartments for up to 10 people.
History of Zuberec
There are no records of settlements from the Middle Ages or earlier on the landscape where the village of Zuberec is located. The first mentions date back to 1593. Zwberczyc was the very first name of the village. The founding of Zuberec and the nearby villages of Habovka and Oravský Biely Potok was the merit of Juraj Thurza, the lord of Oravský hrad. The village of Zuberec belonged to the Hungarian part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy until 1918. In the years 1918 - 1939, it was part of the 1st Czechoslovakia. Between 1939 and 1945, Zuberec belonged to the Slovak State. Furthermore, in the years 1945 - 1992, it was part of the Czechoslovakiaand it has been part of the Slovak Republic since January 1, 1993.
Transportation to Zuberec
Zuberec is located 90 km from the Slovak city of Žilina. There are good connections to Žilina from all corners of Slovakia. In addition to the bus station, you will also find a train station in Žilina. Another possibility is to travel by train or bus to Trenčín or Liptovský Mikuláš, from where there are connections to buses leading to Zuberec.
Sights, attractions and activities in and around Zuberec
Attractions in the vicinity of Zuberec are mainly ski areas, the most famous of which is Zverovka-Spálená. This area is intended for all categories of skiers. Here you will find challenging as well as less challenging tracks for beginners. Only less than 2 km from Zuberec are the two smaller resorts of Milotín and Janovka. In the vicinity, you can also visit the Roháčská valley, which is one of the most beautiful valleys of the Western Tatras. An interesting trip is offered by Skanzen Zuberec – Brestová, where there is a wooden church from the 16th century. In Zubrovac itself you will find the church of St. Vendelína or Museum of the Orava Village. Throughout the year, many interesting cultural and sports events take place in and around Zuberec. Worth mentioning is the Milotín Prize - skiing competitions, the Podroháč Folk Festival or the WSA Eurocup Zuberec, which are dog sled races.
