Zadar is located on the Adriatic coast in Northern Dalmatia. The population is around 80,000 inhabitants in an area of 194 square km. Zadar is a major ferry port and also the starting point for cruises bound for North Dalmatian Islands.

The city's history dates back to the 9th century BC, when there was a settlement of the tribe Liburni. Over time, the area was conquered by Greeks, even later by Romans.
